Altametrics is a renowned software company providing all-in-one restaurant management software. Their solution integrates multiple functions of restaurant operations into a single platform, including point of sale (POS), inventory management, customer relationship management, and other back-end tasks

They had physical nexus in threeU.S. states and crossed economic nexus thresholds in several others, Altametrics required a robust sales tax compliance solution. Initially, Altametrics engaged Avalara but faced several challenges, including a poor onboarding experience, unclear and fluctuating fees, and inadequate customer support. Material differences in sales tax collected and filed further complicated their compliance efforts.

There were also material differences between the sales tax amounts being collected at checkout through Avalara’s AvaTax plugin, compared to what was being filed in the tax returns by Avalara (so they ended up paying tax that was different to what was collected).  Months later, they triggered economic nexus in 3 new states and asked Avalara to register there and start complying. after 3 or 4 months, they had still not received the sales tax ID's and were therefore exposed to non-compliance. again, Avalara’s customer support was non-existent.
