The problem 3PLs keep hearing
Storing inventory in a 3PL's warehouse creates physical presence, and physical presence creates a sales tax obligation in that state. If the warehouse is overseas, the obligation sits in that country. Most brands only find out after the fact.
The complications stack up quickly. An overseas brand signing with a US 3PL needs a US tax ID before it can import goods. A brand expanding into Europe faces a separate VAT regime in every country where it holds stock. The 3PL is usually the first to hear the question, often mid-onboarding, and until now has had nowhere obvious to send the brand.
